Dorothea has suffered the difficult position of marriage and endured the pain of life. She was shameful for Mr. Casaubon. She never thought that Mr. Casaubon would make some guess about his marriage, because of the relationship between Dorothea and Will. and he would impede Dorothea to make a choice about the rest of the life. On the contrary, with the inheritance of Mr. Casaubon, Dorothea realized that her life has changed a lot indeed. She found that she has not pursued her expectation any more, she has learned that she truly needed to wait something and should consider all things of life. She should not to do for her ideal in refuse, and should not entrust her ideal to the care of other. And she also realized that the property which retrained her to remarry just symbolized that the broken relationship between her and Mr. Casaubon. It was imagination that Mr. Casaubon thought Dorothea would stay for property. Therefore, she did not care about the inheritance.
Dorothea recalled the past which Mr. Casaubon, but she has not been engulfed in grief.Recalling her innocent at the beginning, the desire of her ideal, and the change of Mr. Casaubon. And she tried best to reconsider her life. She scanned all the mistake s what she made, and considered the rest life what she wanted. After Mr. Casaubon;s dead. Dorothea decided to come back to Lowick Manors and rectify it, and she wanted to know whether there were any attachments in Lowick Manors. Lowick Manor was a place where she truely and only can return, because there was her spiritual support and she can disperse her pain in there. However, for this decision, Mrs. Cadwallade reminded Dorothea should keep her head clear instead of running the risk. As far as Dorothea was concerned, she still stood by her decision, and she did not agree with Mrs. Cadwallade. As Dorothea described in the novel, “I still think taht the grater part of the world is mistaken about many thins. Surely one may be sane and yet think so, since the greater part of the world has often had to come round from it opinion.”(Eliot George.1994:441)
After she came back Lowick Manors, she has met with Will; and it was the first time to meet him after Mr. Casaubon was died. Actually, coming back Lowick Manors also was the important factor for her to meet Will. However, not only for Mr. Casaubon, also Sir James was looked down upon Will, and her always be rule to Will. Now, Dorothea did not care about another thing any more. For all of Dorothea, she never tied them up to dignity. In the life of Lowick Manors, she did not depend on herself to finish anything any more. She decided to hire the Garth to rectify it, and she also contributed her part of property for Mr. Lydgate to develop medicinal business. Compared with her past life, Dorothea seemed to lose her confidence. But the great and common of the heart, there were a little different. Nowadays, she did neither depend on anyone to contribute to society, nor think of herself being a great person in her life. Mr. Casaubon affected Dorothea deeply, and the effect was enough to affect Dorothea’s all life., and he has gave her a shadow which can come true her dream, the eyes of Dorothea which looked at the reality was deceived by the shadow, and it made her to invade the darkness of imagination. So, Dorothea trusted that she would get rid of ignorance with his help. She acknowledged that the person whom she trusted in could not make her dream come true, and he made her suffer the pain and affront in the marriage. After knew the true, Dorothea wanted to change Mr. Casaubon’s attitude so that she can belong to all things she wanted. Until Mr. Casaubon was died, she finally understood her situation; she also realized that she needed to get ride of his hackle and the shadow of Mr. Casaubon left for her, she should not consider another way to make her dream come turn. And Dorothea did not remarry, she wanted to face the rest of her life alone.
